The Number One thing to remember when shopping for an Individual Healthcare policy is to be a “smart shopper”. The buyers rights and the ways they are protected varies by state.

Who can individual policies benefit? The consumer who’s employer does not offer them healthcare coverage, also the self employed. You must contact a healthcare insurance agent to obtain a policy.

Benefits and the preexisting conditions rules may vary from insurance policy to insurance policy and state by state. Some of the rules that are standard for individual policies and followed by most states and are as follows.

Portability - These requirements do vary by state. And refer to the waiting period of the preexisting conditions.
Guaranteed Renewability - Which just means that once your policy has been activated that you cannot be cancelled if you get sick.
Preexisting conditions limits - Determined the length of your preexisting conditions waiting period.
Most importantly Guarantee Issue - This rule states that the insurance can deny your request for coverage due to current health problems.
