Liability Medical payments
Car insurance is necessary but sometimes very difficult to understand. Medical Liability coverage can be a headache to try and read.
First and foremost you need to check with you state because each state has different requirements on what is acceptable coverage or limits in you medical liability coverage. Medical liability coverage is the part of the insurance that covers all physical stuff. It is the coverage that is for medical expenses such as doctors’ visits, hospital visits, even the ambulance ride if that is necessary. It also covers the rehabilitation that some have to go through in order to get back to how they were before the accident occurred. Some states are “no fault” states which means that if you live in one of these states it requires that all drivers have insurance on their vehicles or they are not allowed to drive them.
There are two types of bodily injury coverage, one is know as personal injury policy, this policy is for you and you alone it covers all your injuries and expenses. The other bodily injury is for others that were involved in the accident besides you and is covered under you general liability coverage. MedPay is also an additional coverage for just you it also helps with any medical expenses that you may have resulting in injury that you may get while driving or driving someone else’s car with that person’s permission and it even covers expenses if you were to get injured as a pedestrian involved in a car accident.
Also check with you auto insurance company and see if they will allow you to combine coverage, say you have two vehicles and they are both insured for $20,000 in medical payment coverage, ask if that mean if you were involved in an accident does that mean the total payout of the accident is $40,000 in medical payment coverage since you are paying for both policies and both are under your name.
You also want to read over the exclusions in your policy. These range for a large variety of things such as no coverage if vehicle was used in the commission of a crime, if you are driving your work vehicle then your personal vehicle coverage would not apply if you were to get into an accident, your business would have to cover it. These are just a few exclusions so just make sure that you read over those and if you have any questions on the exclusion talk with your auto insurance agent.
